La Croix Boucantoni, Haiti
Nestled at the foot of the mountains off the main highway Route Nationale #1, between St. Marc and Gonaives, La Croix Boucantoni is a beautifully secluded area where there is little commerce. Pastor Jean Jerome started a church and school on property that his family owned in 2005 and has been slowly building out the vision with the help of the community. The small church and school building house 120 children daily for school. There are an additional 220+ children that gather in the school yard on a daily basis who do not yet have the opportunity to attend school. ECM has seen the opportunity to support Pastor Jean by putting plans in place to feed all 320+ children that are in the immediate community and help develop the education at the school. We anticipate the school to multiply quickly as word of mouth from the Bread Feeding Program continues to grow, and we are in the planning stage of completing a school building on site with Pastor Jean Gerome to help further develop and reach the community.
The ECM leadership team spent the early part of September 2018 supporting the Haitian team with development strategy. Patrick, our Director of Haitian Operations, discovered our newest location at La Coix Boucatoni, Haiti where we are working to implement the Bread Feeding Program and school building renovation. The feeding program began in September of 2018 with more than 150 children in attendance daily.
Building plans continue to develop for the finishing of the school building in partnership with ITNAC from Trinidad, who began the school building project in 2011. Budgets, contractors, and ECM staff met in early May to discuss final details with plans to have the school ready for the September 2019 start of the school year. We look forward to seeing this community find a refreshed Hope and thrive through the leadership of Pastor Jean Gerome!
